Thanks to Brilliant Earth for partnering with me on this post.
Hi Loves,
OMG it has been a little over a month since I got engaged. Now, many of you knew about my relationship with L and that he's been around even before this blog started. We've known each other for over 20 years, friends for over 15 years, and have been in a relationship for 6 years. On Christmas Eve 2017, while we were visiting home (Jamaica), he asked me to marry him, and of course I said YES! I wrote to Brilliant Earth, told them my story and, asked them to partner with me on this post and they agreed. I am filled with so much excitement.
Now, I wanted to write this post because it was a way for me to introduce L properly- finally you get to see his face. With an engagement comes the excitement around the ring. About four years ago we were having a marriage conversation, and I said to him, when you decide to propose I'd love my ring to be from Brilliant Earth. He asked about them and we hopped on the computer. He fell in love with them on the onset and became as passionate about sustainable diamonds as I was. See, this and many other reasons are why I absolutely love and adore this man. He is kind, extremely compassionate, and patient.
Brilliant Earth ethically source their diamonds, they donate 5% of their profits to those who have been harmed by unethical practices in the diamond industry, and so much more. Their standards are so high, that very few jewelers would meet the standard of ethical sourcing. You guys, I'm feeling so emotional writing this post right now. Not because I am getting married, but because I'm overwhelmed with joy of being able to wear this ring for the rest of my life, knowing that it added value to someone's life. It just really makes me feel super good, especially knowing the world of chaos and pain that unethical diamond sourcing brings to so many communities and families all over the world. I also got the full details on exactly where my diamond was sourced. I won't tell you here, because this is something I want to keep close to me.
The day after he proposed, I asked him so many questions. How much did the ring cost, what was the process like, why did you choose this, any specific details I should know etc. He told me how warm and kind the staff were on his fist ring hunting appointment and throughout his journey of selecting and getting my ring made. He also told me additional services they offer such as re-sizing, lab diamonds options, changing my ring if I didn't like it and, so much more.
Years ago we looked at rings and I've always wanted a princess cut ring but instead, he went with a round cut and, I couldn't be more happy. I asked him why he took the risk knowing how picky I am and he told me he was so in love with the cut and it was so much more classic to him. I nodded in agreement, gave him a kiss, and told him "you did excellent babe". I still wake up and stare at my ring thinking it's the most beautiful thing and my heart is filled with so much happiness. Like, seriously you guys, seriously- Ahh!
He also told me he was split between the option of natural diamond or a lab diamond for my ring. Both are expectational options, however he went for the natural diamond over the lab diamond. The main difference is the size and price. The natural diamond is smaller but more expensive than the lab diamond. He told me he knew I would appreciate the essence of a natural diamond over size and he was right. My man was on top of his game and I couldn't be more proud and happy.
You might be wondering if I plan to get him his ring from them too and, absolutely yes. He has his eyes on a few options and I am excited that we both will symbolize our love and our marriage with conflict-free diamonds. Brilliant Earth also boast a collection of other beautiful jewelry for all special occasion. They have beautiful necklaces, rings, and bracelets. I'm loving this necklace and bracelet for my wedding day.

ReplyDeleteThe princess cut is described by GIA grading reports as rectangle, square, or tapered diamonds. From the side, the stone looks like an inverted pyramid owing to its four beveled sides that come in at a point while from the top, a distinct cross pattern is observed.
ReplyDeleteThe cushion cut diamond is one of most popular diamond shapes. It is a timeless choice for an engagement ring with it's softened square or rectangular shape.
ReplyDeleteWithout a doubt, the cushion cut is generally made up of about fifty-eight facets that have a typical 1.00 to 1.05 ratio for its square shapes, and as for the rectangular shape, the rate lies typically at around 1.10 or higher. Although the cushion cut diamond does to exude as much brilliance as the round diamond, this piece tends to have more significant facets, which usually allow for a greater separation of white light into a couple of different spectral colors.
ReplyDeleteA diamond's 4 C's represent the four main components of its beauty and structure: Cut, Color, Clarity and Carat. When looking at a diamond, the eye perceives a balance of its characteristics and components, including, but not limited to, the 4 C's.
