Philanthropy: How Giving Back Fulfill Lives

Today’s post is all about giving back, embracing our charitable inclinations, and taking full action to help our communities be the best that it can be. When you think charity and philanthropy many think that this is reserved for rich folks or simply for those who have a lot. Actually this is not the case. When I was growing up in Jamaica, we had two sayings in Patois that goes “evry mikkle mek a muckle” and “one, one cocoa full basket”. This basically means, every little bit adds up and one by one we can fill a basket (or whatever). Jewelers Mutual Insurance Company is set to donate a total of $12 million dollars to support three causes that are very important in each of our communities; Health, Home and, Hunger. They are doing this through their corporate giving campaign called Band Together.

As a fashion blogger we are often in positions that exposes us to a wonderful quality of life and that, is a blessing in itself. I am fortunate to be able to afford my every day need of food, clothing, shelter, and miscellaneous. I have this luxury but, there are many people who do not have even the basics that is needed for survival and at minimum, the basic quality of life. For me, every season I donate clothes to my local charity. Most of the clothing I donate is soft worn or have never been worn. I know each piece will fit perfectly on the back of someone in need and if I might add, they likely will be the most fashionable hehe! I feel a sense of belonging and also an appreciation for everyone as I more connected to my community and the people that live in it. The nonprofits that will be benefiting from Band Together are: St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Habitat For Humanity, and Feeding America or Food Bands Canada. They need your help in deciding how to disperse the record breaking donation by voting for your choice of causes from July 11, 2016, 11am CT to July 31, 2016 at 11am CT.
