Lady-Like

There is something very refreshing and feminine about linen dresses, especially flowy ones. I am so in love with this Ann Taylor dress. I fell in love with the beauty mint color and length. I am a huge fan of Ann Taylor clothing because of their durability. Most of my every day work clothes are either Ann Taylor or Calvin Klein, simply because they can withstand washes and maintain a very classic look. You may spend bank of a piece but you will have it forever. This outfit made me feel very Michelle Obama, lady-like and elegant. For me, I like maintaining versatility in the way I dress, because like I said before I can get quite bored. With a dress like this, I like to keep it simple and chic, that means minimal jewelry and sleek hair.

Dress: Ann Taylor. Similar here Ann Taylor and love this H&M, Shoes: BCBG similar here BCBG via DSW, Cross-Body Bag via TJMaxx, Earrings: gifted, Lips: Marc Jacobs, Nails: Sephora by OPI

What is your Lady-Like inspiration when you dress up? Who inspires your lady-like outfits? As you can tell Michelle Obama inspires me. I also love 50s style.
Have a great week everyone and thanks very much for reading.

Print Mix

Hey guys, a happy Friday to you all. It is the start of the weekend and I do hope that if you have plans for the weekend it will go great, if not, I wish you a relaxing weekend. For today's look I went with mixing prints. When I was growing up it was important to match your colors but never your prints. There were a few rules of thumb like match shoes with your handbag, or shoes with top etc. As I grew older I created my own fashion and what felt comfortable for me. I remember going to church and turning my dresses into skirts and vice versa. Or going out and cutting my shorts and tops to make a brand new piece of clothing! Just being creative because I can get quite bored with my own style. One of the things I love about fashion and style is that you can  make it your own. There are no rules and if there are, break them, right?
With print mixing, I like to find one solid color in both prints and choose that to work with. In this outfit, the solid color I am focusing on is black. Another way I mix prints is by adding two opposite prints, like stripes and leopard, or checkered and floral.

How do your mix your prints?

Fall Floral

It is officially the first day of Autumn. I have been so excited about Fall, especially for the temperature to fall. I am also excited to change my wardrobe and wear my coats and jackets and stockings and scarves...you get the idea!!!! :) I also anticipate store decorations and the presence of pumpkin spices and Starbucks changing to their red cups later on. Oh-My-God am too excited:)
I don't know about you but I usually have my clothes sorted by seasons. My closet is never large enough to hold everything, even when I do my so called "Spring Cleaning". So, last weekend I unpacked my Fall/Winter clothes and started putting away my summer stuff. Thing is though, living in Southern California, you have to still keep some of your summer clothes on hand. For this look I wanted to accentuate my Fall floral by adding soft pink (A Fall14 trend). Topped it off with neutral tote and shoes. Yay for Fall!!!!

Button-Up

So, the weather finally dropped a few degrees today in Southern California. It was just right for me, a little warmth mixed with a little breeze. I couldn't decide on what to wear out for an evening at Downtown Disney in Anaheim, CA until I figured I could throw on my Gap botton ups. At first I was going to wear my fave pair of jeans seen here Floral & Jeansbut they were too snugged for an evening of strolling. I scoured my drawers and found these oldie but goodie leggings. They are super comfy and I needed a pop of color in my life:) Then the decision on the footwear came easily-flats. I love flats, they are always there and ready to go. I threw on a cross body bag to make my trip hassle free. Turned out great, I had a great evening.

Peplum & Olive

I would say that I am making my way into Fall but, I cannot confirm that. It has been so hot here in Los Angeles. Today it was 112Degrees, see in last pic I was sweating like a defrosting refrigerator. Yes! I managed to survive wearing these olive Zara pants and soft faux leather Peplum. I couldn't wait to undress after shooting. I am usually the one begging for it to be hot, but I take all that whining back -_- hehe!
Anyhoo, today's post is a casual simple round-the-market post. I love playing with colors and, mixing olive and tangerine, is like ketchup on fries for me. I added this lemon Fossil cross-body bag to brighten my pants. My colorful blue manicure was just perfect to top off this color block I have going on. A little story about my top is that I picked it up in a Primark store in London last year (£5 equivalent to 8-9 $US). Now, Primark is the English version of Forever21 to the US. That is the best analogy I can give. I always go haywire in Primark on every trip to London. My mom always say "Keyma, are you going to Primark today?" The answer: "Yep"

Pop of Orange

Have you ever just have the urge for some color in your outfit? Well, this was the day I really wanted something bright. A little piece of the rainbow :) I went with Orange. This top is actually a peplum top but I decided to tuck it in to avoid a peplum-mermaid clash with my skirt. I added a gold plated belt to garnish the meeting of the blouse and skirt. It was scorching in LA and this skirt gave me the freedom to breathe. Thank goodness *whew* If it were cold, I'd pair it with some black stockings and a black stole coat with olive gloves. Hmm!!! already an idea for fall/winter?? I think so. How do you transition your skirts from summer-fall/winter?

Birthday | Cumpleaños | Anniversaire

Hi Everyone, I just celebrated my birthday a few days ago. Initially I wasn't going to do a birthday post (as I said in about me section- I am a bit conservative). I wanted to keep the info of my birthday events private but after a few people asked me if I will post about my birthday I decided why not? After all it is a celebration so why not share? I didn't plan anything for myself, but my guy, who is the most romantic person, planned me a boat cruise dinner. I had such an amazing time. The cruise leaves from Marina Del Rey, CA and sails along the coast of Santa Monica Pier, Manhattan beach and Venice. It was 2.5 hours and it included a four course meal with additional amenities for your choosing, Dj and a dance floor, and toasts. As I said before, my style is quite simple, this outfit is what I would call my "norm" for going out. I love simple clean dresses and minimal jewelry. I did a full at home body scrub using Victoria's Secret Amber Romance body scrub and Body Shop Vitamin C Microdemabrasion for my face. I then sheen my body with organic coconut oil to give the perfect glow and, topped off my scent with CoCo Chanel Mademoiselle perfume. I love preparing myself for outings like these.

Dress: ANGL (boutique-South Bay Galleria), Shoes: Christian Louboutin (Pigalle) , Watch (DKNY), Earrings: Chanel (similar) (the other pair of earring pictured are vintage, I went with the Chanel), Bracelet (Kate Spade), Lips: NYX Perfect Red, Handbag via TJmaxx.
I want to know how do you style and celebrate your birthdays...Do tell :)
As always, thank you for reading:)

10 Closet Staples

Today I want to talk about a few pieces you must ALWAYS have in your closet. Like I have said
before, style is something that should be unique to every individual. We can all own the same pair of jeans but we will all wear it differently, that is style. I have listed 10 items that I think are great closet staples:

1. Blazer Jacket: It is always a good idea to have a blazer type jacket in your closet. This can take your outfit from casual to dressy to professional. It has multiple uses and will serve its purpose entirely. [ here Nordstrom and here- plus size Target ]

2. Pair of skinny/boot cut Jeans (Blue or Black): This is one of the definite must haves. Whatever your body type, you should own one. This is an easy staple that can take you through all seasons of the year, can be dressed up or down and has longevity. I would say invest in a good strong one. [ here Old Navy and here GAP -both durable brands]

3. Grey/Black T-shirt (V/Crewneck): Again, this staple can be dressed up or down depending on what you pair it with. It is also a good choice because both colors will give you durability. [Here Piperlime and less expensive here Forever21]

4. Coat: Unless you live in a tropical region of the world, then a coat would not be one of your staples (instead-a black maxi dress). If you live in regions where coats are necessary at some point of the year, then invest in a solid sturdy black coat. If you are planning to own any one color, black it is. Also, get a coat that has a redingote/stole shape. That way it can be worn with anything including dresses. [Burlington, here Nordstrom and here Zara ]

 5. Leather/Faux leather (Pants/Skirt): Always have a piece of leather or Faux leather in your closet. it is timeless and flexible.[For talls: Ann Taylor, For regular fit H&M,and skirt: love this Forever21 ]

6. Leopard/Animal print shoes: Your choice of flats, heels, boots, sandals...etc! If you ask me I would say pointy toe flats. The think with pointy toes flats they can be worn as a dress up or down, they can also go great with pants or skirt or dresses. You have flexibility with those. [Zebra Print here: Forever21, Leopard here: Forever21, Leopard here Nordstrom,  and here Nordstrom]

7. A Print Scarf: Always have a printed scarf, preferably one that has timeless colors. Meaning, they can be worn with multiple solids and are also great for print mixing with other general clothes in your closet.[Love this one Lilly Pulitzer, and this Forever21, and this H&M ]

8. An oversize bag (Tan): Tan is the perfect color that gives you a pop but remain subtle. You can transition your oversize bag from season-to-season, easily.[here  Torrid and here Sole Society ]

9. Statement Necklace: Your closet should be equipped with a statement necklace. Yes! why? because it can take your outfit from boring to beautiful. Your statement necklace does not have to be large, it can also be small/medium, as long as it is a piece for detail and attention. [Urban Outfitters and here H&M ] Forever21 and Charlotte Russe also have very cost effective stylish ones.

10. Two Tone Watch: Your closet is not complete without a watch, preferably a two-tone one. A two tone watch gives you the flexibility with your other jewelry. Also, if you cannot afford to buy two-a silver and a gold watch, why not get two-in-one until you can afford to? It is a wise thing to do.[Fossil-one of my fave brand watches, GUESS ]

So there you go! 10 Closet must haves. Remember this is a general list, do what works for you and express your style. What's on you closet staple list? Comment and let me know.
Thanks for reading, appreciate you:)
